As seen on TV!! The 2005 Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival was beamed around the world on the Tensports TV network, making the Festival the first ever club sixes event to have its own TV show! You and your team could be there mixing and competing with cricketers from UK, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Thailand etc., in the largest club cricket sixes event in the world! And what’s more, the Hong Kong International Cricket Sixes, featuring national teams, will be played at Kowloon Cricket Club on 11 & 12 November. So why not make a week of it, see how the pro players do it at the International Sixes, maybe spend a day or two in Macau or on the golf course and then go for it yourself at the Invitational Cricket Festival?! An Asian Cricket Sixes Tour event, the 2006 Hong Kong Cricket Festival is going to be awesome, probably the biggest and best cricket tournament most club cricketers will have competed in ever! Record Entry Expected With the success of the award-winning 2004 Hong Kong Festival and the record-breaking 2005 tournament to build on, this year’s event is expected to have another full entry of both men’s and women’s teams from the Asia region and worldwide making it yet again one of the biggest club Sixes tournaments in the world. Estimates at this stage are for well over 300 players and officials to take part in the tournament, plus spectators. The Festival will again be played at Hong Kong’s newest cricket ground at Po Kong Village Road, Diamond Hill, Kowloon. The ground is also the biggest cricket ground in Hong Kong and features two full-size cricket pitches, both of which will be played on simultaneously during the Festival to create a unique cricketing experience. In addition to the three days of cricket competition there are also two official social functions for players, officials and friends: The Welcome Party and the Awards Presentation Dinner. The Cricket Sixes ConceptCricket Sixes is a short form of the sport of cricket where six players make up each team rather than the traditional eleven. In some ways the idea is similar to Rugby Sevens in that each Cricket Sixes match is designed to incorporate all the most exciting aspects of the sport: high scores, acrobatic fielding, tight bowling, fast action and exciting match finishes. Now recognised worldwide, the Sixes format is a definite “crowd-pleaser” with each match lasting about 45 minutes. The New “Cricket Village”The Po Kong Village Road sports ground is one of the largest sports facilities in Hong Kong and can comfortably accommodate two large cricket grounds running simultaneously, as well as a substantial area in which other supporting attractions can be created. Utilising the available space, Festival Organisers have exciting plans this year to boost the number of spectators and public attending the Festival with the creation of a new and unique “Cricket Village” at the venue featuring a multitude of attractions designed to encourage spectator attendance and create a special, family Festival atmosphere for all to enjoy. The creation of the “Cricket Village” will expand the Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival into a fully rounded sports and leisure event, attractive to both cricket fans, family and friends, as well as people with little understanding of cricket who are looking to enjoy a family day out.
